Builds, Skill Trees & Spirit Stones

Beast of Reincarnation is out, and its build system is leaner than pre-launch guides guessed: three weapon types, three attributes, and two skill trees feeding four broad playstyles — melee pressure, ranged elemental, stealth executions, and a Koo-forward parry build. This page is now written against the live game.

Post-launch edition · Verified against the released game (out August 4, 2026)

How builds work in Beast of Reincarnation

Now that the game has shipped, the progression picture is clear and refreshingly compact. Emma — the vine-haired Sealer at the centre of the story — levels three attributes, carries three weapon types, and grows along two skill trees: her own and her dog-form companion Koo's. On top of that sit gear, Spirit Stones, and the resource loop everything else revolves around: successful parries refill FP, and FP is what pays for Koo's Bloom Arts. Whichever direction you build, it lives or dies by how reliably you keep that gauge fed.

Some pre-launch theorycraft imagined longer stat lists and exotic weapon classes. The shipped game is simpler than that, so this page sticks to what the live build screen actually shows. Where exact numbers or in-game ability names are still being verified, we say so plainly instead of guessing.

The three attributes

Leveling up — spending points earned as you climb toward the level 100 cap — feeds exactly three attributes. There is no fourth stat; if an early guide listed extra attributes, the released build screen shows only these three.

AttributeWhat it raisesWhy you invest
StrengthAttack and defense, and it unlocks Emma's Entanglement Overdrive. The backbone of melee-pressure builds and anyone who wants the slow-time ultimate online early.
VitalityMaximum HP.Survivability — the safety margin that lets aggressive and ranged builds hold dangerous ground.
FlorescenceHP plus the power of your skills. The scaling stat for Bloom Arts and ability-heavy builds; doubles as a second source of health.

Points can be redistributed — the game supports respeccing, so early picks aren't permanent and you can retune a build as you unlock new gear and Nushi Skills.

The three weapon types

Emma fields three weapon categories, and gear is the fastest way to change how a fight feels. Those three categories are the entire weapon roster — there is no additional heavy-blade or gadget-weapon class.

WeaponRoleBuild note
KatanaMelee. Swappable, and blades can carry elemental effects.Your parry-and-punish tool; the heart of any aggressive loadout.
BowRanged. Arrows accept element slots.Distance pressure and status application from safety.
CrossbowRanged. Bolts accept element slots.A harder-hitting ranged option for punishing openings.

Arrows and bolts can hold up to three elemental slots, drawn from three elements: Fire (ignites enemies and can trigger explosions), Lightning (applies Shock), and Wet. Stacking and combining elements is a build lever in its own right, but the exact interaction values are still being verified post-launch — treat elemental theorycrafting as a live experiment for now.

The resource economy every build feeds

Beast of Reincarnation is a parry-first action RPG in the Sekiro mould: a well-timed block beats a dodge, and defense literally feeds offense. Three interlocking gauges shape every build.

  • FP (shown in-game as Florescence or Focus Points — the exact label may vary). Restored by successful parries and spent on Koo's Bloom Arts. This is why no build fully opts out of deflection: it is both your defense and your resource engine.
  • Down Gauge. Filled by landing hits and parries. Max it to execute lesser enemies outright or stagger and stun a boss — the backbone of stealth-execution play.
  • Entanglement Gauge. Emma builds up seven layers, then unleashes Entanglement Overdrive, a slow-time burst that upgrades across five levels and is unlocked through the Strength attribute.

For the companion half of the loop — how FP turns into Bloom Arts — see our Koo guide.

The four build directions

The live game supports four broad directions. They are points on a spectrum rather than locked classes, and the single most useful rule is to concentrate your skill-point (SP) investment around the effects of the gear you actually use.

Melee pressure (katana-forward)

Fast katana strings, deflection-heavy defense, and constant FP generation. This is the style the systems most obviously reward from hour one, since parrying is both your defense and your resource engine. Favour Strength to bring Entanglement Overdrive online and Vitality to stay in range.

Ranged elemental

Bow or crossbow with element-loaded ammo, applying Fire, Lightning, and Wet from a distance while Koo holds attention up close. Because FP refills primarily from parries, ranged builds still weave into deflection range periodically rather than kiting forever.

Stealth executions

Lean on the Down Gauge and the Blight-consumed zones full of lesser corrupted enemies — thin packs with executions before they aggro. The sealed-boss fights still open as straight confrontations, so treat stealth as your exploration and clearing layer rather than a boss strategy.

Koo parry-flow (Bloom Arts)

Build around the companion. Prioritise parry reliability and Florescence so your FP economy runs hot and Bloom Arts hit harder — Koo can break defenses, control crowds, heal you, close distance, and land group damage with status effects. Media-recorded Bloom Arts so far include acid area damage, a giant root that binds and immobilizes, and a seed barrage that adds stagger and heals Emma; the official full list, FP costs, and in-game ability names are still being confirmed and may vary.

Skill trees, SP, Spirit Stones & NG+

Progression is spent across two skill trees — one for Emma, one for Koo — using SP earned as you play. Armor slots take Spirit Stones, socketed in to tune a loadout; this is the fine-tuning layer and the natural glue for hybrid builds. You bank progress, save, and upgrade at the Cleansing Walker, your mobile base. Because the level cap is 100 and full completion runs into New Game Plus, builds keep growing well past the credits — plan for the long arc, not just the first ten hours. Exact SP costs, tree node names, and Spirit Stone stat values are still being catalogued, so we are verifying those against the live game rather than guessing.

Nushi Skills: boss order shapes your build

Each region of Blight-consumed Japan is dominated by a giant corrupted boss, and sealing one unlocks a Nushi Skill — a new ability that expands Emma and Koo's kit. That makes boss routing a build decision: the order you clear regions partly determines when a given power comes online. Our Nushi boss guide tracks every confirmed region boss and flags which fights already have full strategies and which are still being documented.

Do the deluxe edition items affect builds?

No. The digital deluxe edition adds the sword Big Dipper, Emma's Oni's Hat, black and brown coat skins for Koo, 100,000 Amber, and vegetable seeds. The $10 gap over the standard edition is entirely cosmetics, convenience items, and currency — none of it changes core progression, so treat the deluxe sword as an early head start at most, not a build requirement. Build FAQ

What's the best build in Beast of Reincarnation?

There's no single "best" — the game is deliberately flexible, and combat (parries, elements, and the two-tree build variety) is the part reviewers single out as its strongest feature. The most forgiving day-one plan is still melee pressure: parrying is the confirmed FP engine, so an aggressive katana build gets the most reps at the core mechanic.

Can you respec skill trees?

Yes. The released game lets you redistribute points, so early picks aren't permanent — experiment freely and retune as you unlock gear, Spirit Stones, and Nushi Skills.

Can you mix the four playstyles?

Yes, by design. Melee, ranged elemental, stealth, and Koo-forward play are directions on a spectrum, not locked classes. Spirit Stones and gear are the glue for hybrids — just keep your SP focused on the effects you actually use.

Is the Game Pass version different for builds?

No. The Xbox Game Pass and PC Game Pass day-one version is the full game with identical progression. PS5 has no Game Pass option, but the build systems are the same on every platform.

How much build content is there?

The campaign runs roughly 30 hours, closer to 40 with side content, and around 80 hours for full completion — which requires New Game Plus. With a level 100 cap and NG+ carry-over, there's plenty of room to keep growing or rebuild a character after the credits.
