Spirit Stones Explained: Effects, Slots, and What to Sell

The short answer: Spirit Stones are equippable stat boosters Emma finds in strongboxes and overworld drops, she can slot up to 4 of them early on and up to 6 by the end of the game, and the safe rule for selling is keep anything rare and offload only the common, easy-to-rebuy stones when you need quick Amber. Below is what the confirmed Spirit Stones actually do, how the rarity tiers work, and why duplicating one at the Cleanse Walker usually costs more than it's worth.

What Spirit Stones are, and how many you can equip

Spirit Stones are equippable collectibles that grant Emma additional stats and passive powers — small triggered effects like restoring FP on a parry, boosting attack while at full HP, or increasing critical rate on an execution. Emma can equip up to 4 Spirit Stones at a time in the early chapters, rising to up to 6 by the end of the game as her equipment slots expand. They're a meaningful part of the build math covered on our builds guide, since several of the strongest passive triggers (Entangled Parry, Entangled Dodge) feed the same Entanglement Gauge and FP economy that Koo and Emma's Overdrive both run on.

Where to find them

Spirit Stones are overworld collectibles — you find them in strongboxes and as dropped items scattered across each region. Higher-rarity stones are noticeably harder to find than common ones, which is the whole reason the sell-or-keep decision below matters: a stone you can buy from a merchant for cheap Amber isn't the same as one you only found once, forty hours in.

Confirmed Spirit Stone effects

The list below covers the Spirit Stones with confirmed effect text from tested post-launch data. Numbers scale with the stone's level (most cap at Level 3, some go to Level 5); values shown are the baseline and cap for reference.

Spirit StoneEffect
FortificationBeginning a battle boosts Fortitude (which boosts defense for a time). Lv1–3: Fortitude +1 to +3.
OnslaughtBeginning a battle boosts Vigor. Lv1–3: Vigor +1 to +3.
SharpshooterExploiting an enemy's elemental weakness with a ranged weapon has a chance to restore 1 FP to Koo. Recovery rate scales from +20% to +30% across 3 levels.
MomentumBoosts Emma and Koo's attack while Emma's HP is full. Scales from +5% to +10% across 5 levels.
Homing ShotsRanged projectiles gain tracking. Scales from Low to Full Tracking across 5 levels.

Well of FortitudeBoosts Fortitude when Emma's HP drops below half. Lv1–3: Fortitude +1 to +3.
Entangled ParryParrying has a chance to restore the Entanglement Gauge by 0.2 and Koo's FP by 1. Same 10%–50% scaling as Entangled Dodge.
Entangled AssassinationDefeating an enemy with Death from Above or an Assassination restores both the Entanglement Gauge and Koo's FP.
Entanglement IncreaseExploiting an elemental weakness has a chance to restore the Entanglement Gauge and Koo's FP. Rate scales from 3% to 7% across 5 levels.
Florescent RecoveryBloom Arts restore Emma and Koo's HP every second for 5 seconds. Lv1–3: HP Recovery 0.3% to 0.8%.
Iron WallReduces damage Emma takes, but cuts health recovery in half. Lv1–3: 15% to 25% damage reduction.
Dark ApproachBoosts damage while Emma is unseen by enemies — a stealth-build stone. Scales 5% to 10% across 5 levels.
Entanglement StoneCombat begins with Emma's Entanglement Gauge and Koo's FP already increased. Lv1–3: +1/+1 to +3/+3.
Critical Damage IncreaseBoosts Emma and Koo's critical damage. Scales 5% to 25% across 5 levels.
Final BreathPerforming an execution recovers Emma's HP. Recovery scales from 10% to 25% across 5 levels.

Each stone also carries flat HP, Skill Power, Defense, or Critical Rate bonuses at Level 2 that stack on top of the listed passive effect — see the source guide for the full per-level numeric breakdown if you're optimizing a specific build.

Normal vs. Blighted Spirit Stones

Several Spirit Stones exist in a stronger Blighted variant, which roughly doubles the flat stat bonus attached to the stone (for example, Onslaught's Blighted version doubles its Attack bonus from +6 to +12 at the equivalent level). Blighted Spirit Stones are rarer overworld finds than their normal counterparts, which reinforces the general keep-the-rare-ones rule below.

Should you sell Spirit Stones?

Sell them only when you need Amber urgently. You can sell Spirit Stones to Brad at the Cleanse Walker, or to overworld merchants, and it's a quick way to raise cash for a weapon upgrade. But since Spirit Stones are exploration finds rather than guaranteed drops, sell sparingly — you may want a stone later for a build you haven't tried yet.

The one firm rule: keep higher-rarity stones. They're genuinely harder to find in the overworld, while common, lower-tier stones are easy to simply rebuy from a merchant if you change your mind. When you're deciding what to offload for a quick Amber boost (see our Amber farming guide for other income sources), sell the common stones first and hold onto anything you've only ever seen once.

Duplication is not a shortcut

The Cleanse Walker's workbench lets you duplicate Spirit Stones you already own, but duplication costs noticeably more Amber than the stone would cost to simply find or buy again, and you can only duplicate stones already in your inventory — it doesn't unlock new ones. Treat duplication as a late-game convenience for a stone you've settled on permanently, not a way to stock up early.

How Spirit Stones fit a build

Which stones are worth keeping depends heavily on which of the four build directions from our builds guide you're running:

  • Melee suppression builds get the most value from Entangled Parry and Momentum, since constant clean parries keep both bars topped up.
  • Ranged elemental builds should prioritize Sharpshooter and Homing Shots for the FP-on-weakness-hit synergy.
  • Stealth execution builds want Dark Approach and Final Breath, since both trigger off the execution-focused playstyle.
  • Koo parry-flow builds lean hardest on Entangled Parry, Entanglement Stone, and Florescent Recovery, since the whole strategy is keeping FP flowing as fast as possible — see our Koo guide for how that loop works.

Spirit Stones FAQ

How many Spirit Stones can Emma equip at once?

Four in the early chapters, rising to six by the end of the game as more slots unlock.

Where do Spirit Stones come from?

Overworld exploration — strongboxes and dropped items scattered across each region — rather than boss drops or shop purchases exclusively; some are also purchasable from merchants and Brad at the Cleanse Walker.

Is it ever worth selling a rare Spirit Stone?

Generally no, unless you're certain you'll never use that build direction. Rare stones are the hardest thing to refind, while common stones and Amber are both easy to regenerate through normal play.

What's the difference between a Spirit Stone and a Skill Amber?

They're separate systems: Spirit Stones are Emma's equippable passives covered here, while Skill Ambers are a distinct equippable item type tied to Koo's growth line. Don't confuse the two when reading farming guides — a route optimized for one won't necessarily help the other. Not confirmed: the exact acquisition method for Skill Ambers specifically wasn't in the source material for this page.
