Where you meet it
Lacerta is fought entirely inside Chapter 2, the chapter named Creeping Tendrils. Our boss list records exactly two appearances, at Level 13 and Level 16, and unlike Rangifer, Taurus or the Nue Malefact it never returns at a higher level later in the campaign. Our walkthrough describes the two encounters as back-to-back, which is the useful framing: this is one fight with an interval, not two separate expeditions.
It also sits inside the two-chapter stretch that the walkthrough identifies as the steepest part of the funnel, alongside Rangifer and the Nue Malefact. Everything the game has taught you about deflection to this point is being examined here, and by the end of the chapter you get your first real workshop — see the loadout section below.
Lightning is the opening
The boss list records Lacerta as weak to Lightning, and our review repeats the same pairing in its summary of confirmed weaknesses. That is a genuinely actionable weakness rather than a label, because Lightning is one of the three elements our weapons page confirms you can actually enchant onto a weapon in the shipped build, alongside Fire and Wet. The weapons page describes its effect as applying Shock, characterised as fast, punchy status pressure.
The practical consequence is a loadout switch, and it is the first one the game asks of you. The Fire setup that carried Rangifer on the previous boss is the wrong tool one chapter later. Because arrows and bolts hold up to three elemental slots, a ranged build can simply re-slot before walking in; the weapons page's whole argument for ranged flexibility is that you can tailor ammunition to a specific enemy before the fight starts.
The poison phase
The detail that separates Lacerta from the boss before it appears in the walkthrough and again on the boss list: its second phase turns poisonous, and the recommendation in both places is to carry antidotes in. That is worth taking literally, because it is a consumable problem rather than a skill problem — the answer is in your inventory before the arena door closes, or it is not available at all.
The second recorded tactic is to bind the boss with Koo and punish it during the hold. The walkthrough phrases it as binding and punishing, and the boss list points the same advice at the boss's lunges. Our Koo guide lists a giant-root art that roots a target in place among the Bloom Art effects actually observed in play, which is the mechanical shape that advice fits. Note the framing carefully: the Koo guide presents those observed arts as examples, not as an official complete ability list, so pick the binding option your own command menu offers rather than hunting for a specific printed name.
There is a real tension between the two halves of this fight. Poison punishes you for staying close, while the Florescence Point economy documented on the Koo guide only pays out when you are close enough to deflect. Antidotes exist so you can keep choosing the parry.
The Dokuzeri payout
Sealing Lacerta hands over the Nushi Skill Dokuzeri Shower, the art Dokuzeri: Fang, and Blade Art: Dokuzeri, per the boss list's reward column. The Koo guide independently confirms Dokuzeri Shower as the second Nushi Skill in the documented unlock order, arriving from Lacerta in Chapter 2.
The boss list characterises the Dokuzeri line as the poison tools you will want for the next stretch, and the roster bears that out: Shidou & Nue in Chapter 3 and Kunai & Kirin later on are both recorded as weak to Poison. In other words, the reward for beating a boss that poisons you is the ability to poison things back, and it arrives exactly one chapter before the game starts asking for it. Full tactics for the first of those fights are on the Shidou & Nue guide.
Loadout notes
- Antidotes are the non-negotiable item. Two separate pages on this site flag the poison phase; no page suggests it can be out-healed.
- Slot Lightning, not Fire. Lightning is confirmed equippable and confirmed to be this boss's weakness — a rare case where the counter is fully documented on both sides.
- The hub opens right after. Our glossary places the Cleanse Walker — the Workbench for weapon enhancement, Spirit Stone duplication, and the merchant Brad — near the end of Chapter 2, and the Amber farming guide adds that the Cleanse Walker Communicator unlocked there is what lets you reset Emma's or Koo's points. If your attribute spread felt wrong during this chapter, this is the first moment you can do something about it.
- Sustain stones over damage stones. The Spirit Stones guide lists Well of Fortitude, which raises Fortitude once Emma drops below half health, and Iron Wall, which cuts incoming damage by 15–25% at the cost of halving health recovery. Read that second trade carefully before a fight with a damage-over-time phase.
Where it sits on the drop-off curve
The achievement Lacerta's End is the second rung of the boss ladder. Our trophy page records it at 43.7% of Steam owners as of its August 31 reading, while the achievement tracker shows 44.3% from its September 7 refresh of the same source. Both are point-in-time reads of a moving statistic; quote the date with the number.
Set against roughly 53–54% for Rangifer, that is a loss of about ten points of the audience across one chapter — the largest drop between any two consecutive boss seals on the list. The trophy page reads the same shape as evidence that the early game is where runs die, and our length guide puts the same advice in scheduling terms: budget your retry patience for the opening chapters.
What this page does not claim
No page on this site documents Lacerta's individual attacks, its phase-transition trigger, or how much health it carries at either level. We know the second phase poisons you and that its lunges are punishable after a bind; we do not have a tested move table, and we are not going to write one from guesswork. We also have no record of what the Level 16 rematch changes relative to the Level 13 fight beyond the level itself.
Lacerta FAQ
Do you fight Lacerta twice?
Yes, both times in Chapter 2 — the boss is listed at Level 13 for the first encounter and Level 16 for the second. It does not return in a later chapter.
What element should I bring?
Lightning. It is the weakness recorded on the boss list and one of the three elements the weapons page confirms can be enchanted onto arrows, bolts or a katana.
Why do I keep getting poisoned?
The second phase is poisonous — that is documented behaviour, not a status effect you misplayed into. Both our walkthrough and the boss list tell you to bring antidotes for this specific fight.
What does Lacerta unlock?
Dokuzeri Shower as a Nushi Skill, plus Dokuzeri: Fang and Blade Art: Dokuzeri — the poison kit the boss list expects you to use on the Poison-weak fights that follow.
